Assessment Procedure

The primary aim of the Lyndon Withdrawal Unit (LWU) is to provide a physically and psychologically safe environment in which people may undertake withdrawal (detox) from alcohol and other drugs of dependence. Through this we aim to maintain and improve the health of individuals, their families and our communities. The LWU will function as an intake / assessment facility for all programs and take into account a client’s specific needs in offering an individually tailored treatment program.

Length of stay can vary for individuals, and each person is reviewed clinically on a daily basis. Withdrawal can take from 3 to 14 days, depending upon a number of factors, some of which are not clear at initial assessment but which become apparent during this period.

Clients wishing to attend the outpatient program are to be detoxed prior to admission, as an outpatient you are required to attend not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, you will be breathalised everyday prior to commencement of program and also required to submit urine samples 3 times weekly.

People interested in coming in to Detox ,Outpatient Program or the Lyndon Therapeutic Community will need to book an assessment time with the Assessment Officer. Phone assessments are booked by calling 02 6361 2300 Monday-Thursday morning from 8:30am to organise an assessment time. A phone assessment will then be completed at that designated time. On phone assessment clients are required to have their Medicare card number and expiry date and health care card number and expiry date.

If the client is approved for admission they will then be placed on the waiting list. Once on the waiting list clients are asked to make weekly contact to have their names marked off the waiting list. An admission date is given ASAP. If the client fails to maintain this contact they are removed from the waiting list.

If a person wishes to reduce off methadone they need to be on 20mgs or less. If a person wishes to detox off buprenorphine they need to be on 6mgs or less. We are able to maintain a person on methadone/buprenorphine/suboxone and detox them from other substances.

Clients who have a history of criminal activites or Mental Health will be required to fax through copies of thier reports as supporting documentation for their assessment- 02 6361 7400
